Acer is pushing hard into the AI PC space, and the Swift 16 AI is its largest offering yet. With a gorgeous 16-inch OLED display, Intel's latest Lunar Lake processor, and a slim aluminum chassis, this laptop aims to blend productivity with next-gen features. But while the hardware impresses, the AI software still feels like a work in progress.
Design and build quality
The Acer Swift 16 AI is surprisingly thin and light for a 16-inch laptop. At just 0.58 to 0.69 inches thick and weighing 3.37 pounds, it's easy to carry around. The all-aluminum chassis feels sturdy, though there's some flex near the fan grilles. The flat black lid is minimalistic, with only a small Acer logo and an AI badge. The hinge is smooth and allows one-handed opening. A small lip on the display frame lifts the rear slightly for better typing ergonomics. The 1440p webcam supports Windows Hello but lacks a privacy shutter. Port selection is solid: two USB-C (Thunderbolt 4), two USB-A, HDMI 2.1, and a headphone jack. However, both USB-C ports are on the left side, which may be inconvenient for some users.
Display and speakers
The 16-inch OLED panel is the star of the show. With a 2880×1800 resolution and support for a 120Hz refresh rate, it delivers sharp, vibrant visuals. Colors are rich, though slightly oversaturated out of the box. HDR is supported but peak brightness of 340 nits limits its impact. The screen is highly reflective, making outdoor use difficult. The speakers are bottom-firing and sound decent at low volumes, but distortion creeps in at higher levels and bass is lacking.
Keyboard and trackpad
The keyboard is comfortable with stable, tactile keys. The power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor, though it's a bit slow. The number pad is cramped, with keys only 75% the width of the main keys. The trackpad is accurate but could be larger given the available space. A glowing AI logo on the trackpad blinks when AI features are used, but it can be disabled in settings.
Performance
The Swift 16 AI is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. General performance is smooth for everyday tasks and productivity. The integrated Intel Arc 140V GPU handles light gaming well. However, the laptop comes with a lot of pre-installed software, including McAfee, third-party games, and Acer's own AI tools. These tools, like Acer Assist and VisionArt, run locally but are slow and limited. The AI model takes up about 5GB of RAM, and all processing is done on the GPU rather than the NPU. Acer has promised updates to improve performance and add NPU support.
The Acer Swift 16 AI is a capable machine with a big, beautiful screen, but its AI chops are still unproven.
Battery life is a highlight, with the 70Whr cell lasting through a full workday. The 65W charger is compact and charges quickly.
